Welcome Sammy!
Samuel "Sammy" Chandler was born at 6:33pm on 9/18, was 7lbs 9oz, and his mother is definitely happy to be through with the pregnancy. We arrived at the hospital around 5:50pm, so things were already progressing quite rapidly. Life is wonderful, and baby and mom are doing well.

JT Update
Hey, We just wanted to let you know we love you and are so thankful we have you as we are going through all of this with JT. When we went in to see the doctor on August 15 to see if his second surgery was successful we found out that JT’s cancer didn’t do what it was supposed to do. In general cancer in an organ, in this case Follicular cancer in the Thyroid, will infest the entire organ before finding more tissue to infect. His went about 2/3 through and decided it wanted out “escaping the thyroid capsule” and headed for his neck tissue. So in order to try and stop it from growing, we will be headed to Seattle Children’s Hospital where he will undergo radiation treatment. In order to prep for this JT has had to go on a very strict diet. NO: Iodized salt, sea salt. Milk or other dairy products, including ice cream, cheese, yogurt, etc. Eggs, seafood, including fish, shellfish, kelp, or seaweed. Foods that contain the additives carrageenan, agar-agar, algin, alginate, Cured and corned foods (ham,, lox, corned beef, sauerkraut) breads made with iodated dough conditioners, foods and medications containing red food dyes, Chocolate, Molasses, Soy products (soy sauce, soy milk) Do not eat at restaurants. This was pretty hard at first but we are finding that fresh fruits and veggies and homemade breads are really quite tasty. He will have to stay on this diet until after the second dose of radiation. We head out tomorrow (September 6). We will be there from September 6-23. He will have quite a few dr. visits. His schedule will be: 7th- blood work then his first dose of radiation. This will only be a small dose to survey the tissue remaining where his thyroid used to be. 10th-he will be put under the cameras in the nuclear medicine clinic and this will tell them how much of the cancer is remaining. He will have to lie on a table for approximately 1 hour. 14th-more blood work to check for TSH and to measure tumor markers (thyroglobulin) then he will have a clinic visit with the dr to go over the results from the scan and to prep him for the next day. 15th-he will have the therapeutic dose of radiation at this time where he will be admitted to the hospital where he will stay in a lead lined room where he will have to remain until he is no longer radioactive. They believe it could take between 2-4 days. He will be in isolation and will not be allowed visitors, not even me. I will, however, be in the next room to him where they tell me I will be able to see him and talk with him on the telephone. He will be discharged with the restriction of not being around small children, people with illnesses, or pregnant woman for another 2-4 days. So he will just hang out in the hotel room with me. 22nd-he will have another full body scan this one will be slightly longer at 1 ½ hours. He will need more blood tests to check markers and then he will have another clinic visit. We will be staying at the same hotel for the entire visit and I have checked with them (because many of you have asked) and they said it would be ok to send correspondence to JT at the following address: Jimmie Rosenbruch C/O Hotel Nexus 2140 N. Northgate Way Seattle, Washington 98133 We love all of you and feel truly blessed to have you in our lives. Bud will be out working so my Best friend Wendy Dalton flew up here, leaving behind her own family, to take care of the three kiddos AND to work for me while we are gone. We will never be able to express our gratitude for all of you. We love you!! Bud, Jackie, JT, Jakob, Joshua, and Jayden

JT News and Update
I received the following from Jackie: We hope all is doing well. We have been receiving questions about JT so we figured we would fill you in on some details and hopefully help you understand what we understand. JT has been diagnosed with Follicular Thyroid Cancer. It was found when they removed a tumor we discovered he had last October. This tumor was biopsied and the results were “favors” benign. When we spoke with the Dr.’s at that time it wasn’t in their minds that we would be facing this. So at that time they asked us to make a decision to either check the growth of the tumor which started out at 1 inch in diameter every 6 months with ultrasound or have it removed as a precautionary measure. We weighed both options but felt really strongly to have it removed. So after a few months of decision making we had the tumor extracted (April 16th). It was attached to the left side of his thyroid so they had to remove that side with it. The surgery went well and JT is still mending from it. Then two weeks later we received the call from Dr. Manning with the results of the pathology report. Since then we have had a few phone conversations with him as well as Dr. Chiu. Both these doctors are very much involved and have been answering questions. So at this point we know that JT will undergo several scans and blood tests to see the extent of where the cancer is. Dr. Chiu told us that while JT only has half his thyroid, his brain is telling it to mass produce to make up for it. This could actually be spreading the cancerous cells. JT has started pill therapy to combat this. This particular type of cancer can metastasize anywhere but these two doctors believe it will target his lymph nodes, lungs, and then bones. Once they reach a conclusion as to where, they will remove the other half of his thyroid and whatever else needs to be removed to get rid of it. This surgery can only happen 90 days after the first surgery due to its location. This will put us around July 16. He will then start radiation and all that 6 weeks after his surgery. While doing radiation he will be quarantined to a lead room with no human contact until he is no longer radioactive. This could take up to 4 days. Then he will have to have more scans and tests to see where we stand. This will be a lifelong thing for him. He will be tested and scanned from then on to check for recurrence due to its target areas and the fact it has already been found in his system at such an early age. I have included a few exerts from information we have received from the Doctors at Seattle Children’s, as well as, information on a website called www.thyca.org . If you wish to check it out do so. Dr. Manning says it is very informative and will help us all become familiar with what we will be dealing with. · Follicular thyroid cancer, which is rare in children with an annual incidence of less than one per million, has been reported to demonstrate more aggressive characteristics and poorer prognosis due to vascular invasion. · Still, the prognosis is better for children than for their adult counterparts who present with a similar extent of disease. · . Follicular thyroid cancer is not very common in childhood. The primary tumor is usually a single lesion within the thyroid gland. Lymph node metastases can occur with less differentiated variants of follicular thyroid cancer but are not generally expected. It is associated with a worse prognosis (as compared to papillary thyroid carcinoma) due to its propensity for vascular invasion, which increases the risk of metastases to distant sites of the body, such as the lungs and bones. · Very few children die from this disease. Even those children with distant metastases at diagnosis can anticipate survival for years to decades. · The goals of treatment are to eliminate the disease and to reduce the chance of recurrence. · Sometimes the disease cannot be entirely eradicated, and therefore, another therapeutic goal is to achieve stable disease and no symptoms of disease. We feel very blessed that we have found this early on and will be able to manage it. We are a little scared and a lot shocked, but feel very strongly that the Lord will be with us and His will, will be done. We love all of you and hope that this will answer some of your questions. JT is feeling alright! He is experiencing light headedness, dizziness, fatigue, and is generally not feeling well. These feeling will hit him off and on and Dr. Chiu says they are normal and since he is starting treatments will continue for a while. On a good note JT is extremely excited to be going on a bear hunt with his dad, Grandpa Rosenbruch, and cousin Hunter. He and his dad have been out at the rifle range practicing and boy is he a great shot! JT has also opened up himself an email account if anyone would like to drop him a note I know he would appreciate it. His email is bearjt (at) live (dot) com.

Daniel D. Acquiring Two Wives At Once (by accident)
Recently Jordanne went and visited Aunt Annie and she related the story Aunt Annie told her about Daniel D. acquiring two of his wives at the same time. Daniel had been away for some time (I'm not sure if it was a mission or work) and when he returned to Salt Lake City the Prophet, Brigham Young, told him on a Saturday to appear at the Endowment House on Tuesday with another wife. Daniel told him that he didn't know anyone in Salt Lake to marry and Brigham Young told him to appear on Tuesday with a wife.
Daniel went home and told his second wife (his first one had passed away) what the prophet told him and she said that he could marry one of two girls that had been really helpful to her while he was gone. Daniel went to the first of these, our great-grandmother, and asked her parents for permission to marry her. Her parents thought that she was too young at 14 to get married so they told him "no." Daniel left their house and immediately went to the next girl's house to ask her parents. They told him "yes" so they made the arrangements to meet the following Tuesday. As he was leaving her house, the first girl's parents arrived and told him that since the Prophet had told him to get a wife it would be okay with them. So instead of just one wife, Daniel obtained two.
So Daniel D. married the second girl first because she said "yes" first and our ancestor second.
